Grandpa's Legacy
This
week, as I sat with Joshua and tried to explain why Mama was crying, I ended
our conversation with the promise that we will see Grandpa again when Jesus
comes. Although I am not sure how much Joshua, at age 5, clearly
understood, his only question to me was "Mama, when is Jesus coming?"
I think that Grandpa would challenge us to be continually working to
ready ourselves and those in our lives to be ready for Jesus coming when we
will once again be able to be with those who have gone on before us.
Through
the years, Grandpa and I had many of our famous "discussions" and
many times we did not see things in the same light. As I grew older and
especially after becoming a parent, I came to admire his wisdom and his
conviction of faith in Jesus. No matter what, Grandpa stood firm in his
beliefs.
I
would challenge each of my generation to choose to follow in Grandpa's
footsteps -- be true to your convictions and continually expand your faith in
Jesus. If there is anything that Grandpa would have wanted to pass on to
both us and our children, it is this. As I watch Joshua and look forward
to meeting our second child, I can only hope and pray that I will be able to teach
them these truths that Grandpa so clearly demonstrated in his life.
We
will miss his presence but his memory and impact on our lives is eternal.
Love,
Karen
